On a mission to make and grow disciples

Women of Worth

Posted by Alan Mcknight on September 16, 2014

Women of Worth are a group of women who over many years  travelled to Northern Ireland and Edinburgh annually to attend various events for women. At these events we had the chance to reflect on our faith and beliefs, to learn more about the God we serve and to be encouraged and inspired by other women who were also somewhere on their journey of faith. Each year as we returned from these events we all agreed that we wished there was some such event for women in Glasgow as we had found our time away so refreshing.
Eventually  in 2012 we decided the only way there could be a women's event in Glasgow would be if we ran one! So some of us got together with women from across the city to consider what God wanted us to do to help women from all walks of life grow in their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ or discover what having faith in him really means. Last year was our first venture and we put on a full day conference at Finlay Church which was well attended and brought blessing to many women.

This year we have decided to host a praise and worship night on Saturday 4th October, with Ruth Aird our special guest speaker opening up Gods Word to us on the topic of "To own, to share and to sacrifice." We trust this evening brings many women from different parts of Scotland together to consider their faith or lack of faith in a whole new and more meaningful way? Please pray that as God touches the hearts of all who attend the event we leave feeling we have shared in that real sense of joy which can only be found when we are living for the Lord Jesus Christ each and every day of our lives.

Our text for the event is 1 Peter 1 v7, "so that the tested genuineness of your faith - more precious than gold that perishes though it is tested by fire - may be found to result in praise and glory and honour at the revelation of Jesus Christ.". It reminds us that no matter the challenges we face in life God has said in His word that faith in the Lord Jesus Christ is more precious than gold that perishes and that is such an encouragement to bring to the Women of Scotland.

We have chosen the "Hope For Justice" cause again this year to support through our event as we really admire the work they do to rescue women from trafficking and slavery and to restore them and introduce them to a loving Saviour. Please pray for this event and that all who attend will share a blessing and be inspired to serve God in a new and wonderful way as a result of the word that goes forth on the night .
